I dream of going to the Globe one day! What an extraordinary experience. I'm glad you had a good time. I've never read The Merchant of Venice, but I have a goal to read more Shakespeare this year (j'adore), so I better get on that. :)
Yes, it was such a great afternoon!! The Merchant of Venice is definitely one of Shakespeare's better plays, in my opinion, but it does deal with some pretty heavy social issues and does sort of make me cringe on behalf of all Christians at some points. This particular production ended with a forced baptism of a Jew (which, if I'm remembering correctly, isn't actually portrayed in the play), so that was tough to watch.
But yes! You'll have to let me know which are your favorites as you read more of his plays :)
I used to go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. They have their own little Globe Theatre there, which was perfect for imagining that you're at the real deal.
